Sadness and How To Overcome It
Summary - Dendang Perantau
Yesterday my leave started, and I'm smiling all the way. Because I don't have to think about work for the next 9 days or so. Not that working is no fun.. (in the case my manager read this), no seriously I enjoy my work (most of the time). But after a while, we just need to get away from it all.
I'm even happier with all this Aidilfitri celebration coming. But truthfully this is my first time not celebrating Aidilfitri with my family in Kedah. This year it will be here in Selangor. As you would probably know, my wife is now in her first trimester. And according to the doctor, she is not recommended to fly during this period.
I believe, every one will have that sad emotion when they cannot go back home for Aidilfitri right?
The funny thing about sadness, is that usually if we look closely, it is almost always comes in pairs. When there is sadness, there is happiness. Here what I found...

A Sad Story - At Least I'm Sad Reading It
A story today, I once heard from an unknown resource. I'm also not that sure whether it's true or not but irregardles, it is a nice story to be shared. (Obviously the story was rewritten based on memory)
Once upon a time, there was a man who is so successful, he was the richest person in the country. One day he decided that he wanted to pay off any debt he had with any person in the country. After paying off all debt, he suddenly realized that he still owe his success to his old mother. And thus he went to see a wise man, asking how he could settle all debt he has with his mother.
The wise man, shook his head and said that there's no way a mother's deed can ever be repaid.
The rich man disagreed, and came up with a plan. What he did was he picked his mother off the floor and started carrying her on his back for 10 years. This according to him should settle the burden he was when the mother was pregnant. In the 10 years time, he did everything, his mother did when he's a child. feeding her with his own hand, bathing her, everything to repay back all the little things he did.
After the ten years passed. He again went to the wise man, and tell him every little thing he did. Apparently he kept a notebook listing it all, complete with time and date.
The wise man simply said that "What you did however great it was, will never match even a drop of your mother's breast milk. or a second of your time seeing with those eyes"
(I'm sorry to interrupt... this is how I remember the story, "eye" with "blind", get it? ok on with the story hehe)
The rich man said "You are just making this up, how come what I did doesn't match what she did?"
The wise man replied "It is because, when your mother carried you, fed you, bathed you... the only thing in her heart is the hope to see you grow and happy. But when you carried her, feed her, bathed her.. the only thing in your heart is wondering when will she die."

- The dark side of the day - Appreciate parents all year long, not only on Father's or Mother's Day
There are two most important person in my life. My mama and Maktuk. Unfortunately I cannot care for them. My mother is still working in KL. She is a very independent woman being a single parent and all. All I can do is to go visit her every now and then. That's why sometimes I'm not able to update the blog. I seriously hope to be able to take care of her when she decided to stop working.
Maktuk is my grandmother living in Kedah. Alhamdulillah, my brothers Filantera & Pocket are there taking care of her. I always feel sad knowing that I'm not there, seeing her more often when this is the time she needed me the most. I have to do something about this...

13 Going 30... 30 going 13

Summary - Appreciating is a hard thing to do
Hectic hectic day... So hi guys, hows life?
Yesterday I was watching a movie "13 going 30" on RTM2 with the mrs. Did you watch it? Well no fear, this is not a movie review. It is about one 13 years old wishing to be 30. And like every thing else in a movie, the wish come true.
I'm not sure about you, but when I am at that age, I cant wait to become adult. No more studying, no more exams, a lot of money every months. Can do anything we desire without the need to seek approval, Wow! that would be heavenly.
Not that my childhood is no fun. Believe me. It was the best time of my life. With all the drama, the rebellion, the awesome company, SO MUCH free time, I sometime wonder what to do... Now that I'm working. every once in a while, I start wishing to be given the opportunity to turn back time, and maybe this time I will appreciate the time more.
I believe every one, if given the chance, want to do the same. Am I right? Why ya?
I'm thinking this all through out the movie. And this is what I can come up with
- We really are so bad at appreciating and be thankful. when we were kids, we don't appreciate all the wonderful things we're given and jealous of all the things adult do. It actually not a surprise because we were just not that mature at the time. But why when we were supposed to be more mature now, the "bad at appreciating" seems to still be there.
- It doesn't stop there, we always find eating at other's house is more delicious than our very own cooking. We always envied other people for their perfect life, when in fact they were doing the same on you.
- any other examples guys?
--------------- Personal Note --------------------------
I know somebody may find that the movie is so ewww heheh. Well unfortunately I really like that type of movie. For me movies should satisfy my imagination. If I want to see war movies, I am better off with the evening news :). Anyway my kind of favorite movies are those that are imaginative like Harry Potter, LOTR, Highlander etc. Comedy is another genre I love. Ya la, if you are going to sit there for 2 hours, you are entitled to a happier you after the movie... :)

The Story
Referring to yesterday's post, I was telling you a piece of my childhood memory. Today, I'm going to tell you the whole story. I'm not sure what year was it, but I was definitely either 14 or 15 years old. It was Ramadhan and my brothers, a friend and myself went to the mosque to pray Solat Terawih. Maybe it's more proper if I introduce them to you. Both my brothers are pocket and filantera. That's was of course their blogger name. The friend is Zulkifli Zainon or better known as Bob.
THE HISTORY
One night, when we were returning home from the mosque, Bob's sister - Netty and her friends were walking far in front of us but still within visible distance. So that night, when the girls reached a cemetery area, suddenly, a few boys jump on them from the nearby trees. The girls were so frightened and scream. Since we are quite far at the back, we can only shouted at the boys and they just ran away. We cannot chase them of course, with our stomache full of the "more" feast we just had hehe. ("More" pronunce as More+Ray). We thought that was it, but apparently we thought wrong, the boys were planning to seek revenge on us the next day.
THE NEXT DAY
as always, we returned home, all four of us. The girls was now closer to our group. Suddenly we realized we had been followed by the boys from yesterday. There were about 7 to 8 of them. From the back, we can hear they tried to start a fight by saying nasty words (which I'm not going into details here).
I can still remember, our mood that night had changed and it seemed that even our walking style from the lazily sliding, changed to the warrior like walking from Hang Tuah movies hahah. We kept quiet the whole time. In our mind, we know for certain that the fight will surely take place. We were really outnumbered so it will be worse if we fight in the dark. We need some light.
THE CEMETERY
The only light available is in front of the cemetary. We reached there and instead of confronting them, we somewhat wait for them just beneath the light. My youngest brother, filantera was only in primary school then so we sent him off with the girls to the girls' house. Hoping very hard that my beloved filantera would know what to do, maybe asked some adults to come and sort our fight. So off he went.
The nasty words uttered were still thrown at us continuously. But the funny thing is they didn't take any move to start the fight themselves, We can hear the sound of iron clinging to each other what we then assume are weapons such as screw driver and chain. Imagine us waiting there, heads down just waiting for the fight to start or the help arrived from Filantera's quest.
THE TURNING POINT
suddenly, my second brother - pocket, fall down and start screaming like mad. And I mean really screaming.. as if he was possessed. It is the cemetary. Both of us, Bob and I was shocked and had to hold him as strong as we can because my brother had seriously gone crazy, screaming and trying to go to the boys.
And the boys who had been following us from the start... was either shocked with my brother's screaming or just plain shocked, they ran away to all direction... believe me, even running into us. ahhahaha.
After about 30 seconds of hysteria, my brother calms down and guess what, he said that it is all just an act to scare the boys away. We were laughing so hard that night. seriously amazed with his idea.
THE ONE WHO'S "HARAPKAN PAGAR, PAGAR BUKAK PINTU PAGAR"
We then went to Bob's house, and guess what, my youngest brother - filantera, was actually drinking hot milo served by the girls. He totally forgot his mission. hahaha.....
THE END

1) In 7 months time, I will be given the best of happiness. The happiness of being a father. All I need to do now, is to take care of the mother-to-be whole heartedly. Some people tried years and not given that gift.. I am so thankful and promise to take care of that trust at any cost :)
2) If previously, I am so happy with one family, now I got two. I should be twice happier. Imagine people living their life without any family to go back to. I got two... Why should I complain :)
/end list
Every person will have sad moment in life. Happiness we share with people, but sadness is often only ours to bear. This is usually the one feeling we kept inside. The truth is nobody can take away that sadness. Only you and you alone can sooth yourself.
This is exactly how I sooth myself. I look back at that sadness and then look at those more unfortunate than me. There will always be other people more unfortunate than us. People whose parent already passed away, People who still have parents but neglecting them. I will then feel that I am actually blessed by Allah with all this gift and I really should be more thankful. Seriously when u feel thankful, the world and how it is treating you is not that bad after all. :)
How do you sooth your sadness and pain? Care to share?

--------------Personal Note-------------In Kedah, during Aidilfitri, the most interesting event happened very early in the morning where everyone wake up late, trying new clothes, eating breakfast (and it will feel weird everytime, maybe due to 1 month of no breakfast). We will then go to the mosque. Later there will be a very formal "bersalaman" protocol where everyone take turn to "bersalaman" from the eldest to the youngest. :) Lastly we will all go to the cemetary and do tahlil there.
Everything seems normal right? That's the beauty of family.. normal things but very meaningful and important.
Hows yours? What are the things you do during Hari Raya? :)
